About Me:
A lifelong lover of the needle arts, I didn't think that I wanted to add tatting to my needlework repertoire, but did not pass up an opportunity to learn and am really enjoying it.
In real life, I divide my year between Northern Idaho (where I own a business) and Santa Barbara (where I farm avocados, hogs and cattle). Because of this peripatetic lifestyle, my craft occupations have had to become ever more portable. Before, when I lived in one place, I worked in seed beads, made glass beads at the torch, and dabbled in tapestry weaving. That was all too much stuff to haul around, so I took up crochet and made a bunch of afghans and doilies. Several years later, a desire to create finer lace fabric took me to knitting. A number of lace shawls down the road, I got sidetracked by cables, socks and garment construction. Tatting was not a planned progression on the lace theme. It just happened.
A bit of fiddling combining Sue Hanson's dimpled ring and Matthew Takeda's single shuttle split ring, assisted by Jane Eborall's trick for adding beads to a folded thread, gave me this:
A little uneven and lopsided, but you get the idea. You'll find a description of how this came about… Continue
...goes a long way. As some of you know, I am currently playing Mommy to a dozen 10-day-old Toulouse goslings. They are still very cute, but getting quite big and producing a prodigious quantity of excrement (one every 20 minutes, times 12, times 24 - you get the picture). When I… Continue
I thought that the pink one was with King Tut, which I enjoy a lot....... I've got some DMC #80 and it is so fine; I find it more difficult to deal with than the quilting thread, although it is stiffer...
No, have not heard from them yet, but I mailed my application in a few days later than you. Being in Canada, I will have to wait longer, as usual!
My 'Heart's Desire' is finally making sense to this poor dyslexic brain of mine. No "in my sleep" tatting for me! However, I am still aspiring to the even stitches in your wonderful, pink #1. If I feel too puffed up with my work, I go over to your page and look at the lovely shape of that little pink number!! Fox : )
Hi there,
Thanks for your very lovely comments on my tatting........I do believe that Geese can get agressive at times......we had them on the lake in out small village but they had to be moved because visitors were being attacked LOL.......I miss them though.
Hello again - I slept, got up far too early so i could get my lazy bones to the gym, and actually read your comments as I was leaving :) I've since bought some chunky hand-dyed tatting/crochet thread, so when it comes I shall follow your advice, and see how I get on. Thanks again for all your comments and suggestions, they've been really helpful.
I knew I shouldn't check this just before bed - now i want to google for thread! I will investigate, and also experiment with my tension a bit - thank you for the advice. My tension is still a bit wobbly - I'm getting there with rings, its just keeping it all in place for chains that I don't like. Although I have been trying to keep it tight, your plan for thicker thread sounds much better - and I should still be able to re-train myself. And glad it's not just me that has hissy fits!
Oh - i was just kidding! Seriously :) Your snowflake is really beautiful - and i love the tiny beads. They fit in so well at that size- they add extra sparkle but don't take the snowflake over. And thank you for the compliment, you're very kind. Actually - having just read your bio, i think if anyone could tat in a different yarn it could well be you!

Next year if I can I'd love to go, I have friends over there so we will have to see. Hubby thinks it would be cool for me to go though.
