Picture of Purple Blog Pattern for Tatting Chic

TattingChic,

Here is the pattern for the purple blob that I am having so much trouble with. I think I have finally got it to post it right. Maybe you can now see what it is I'm doing wrong. This is from the June 1957 Workbasket.

Canning Beans

Last Tuesday and Friday my mom and I went to my brother's to pick beans from his garden to can. We picked 4 bushels, took them home, broke them up and canned them. Between the 3 of us it was a 16 hour day. Then 3 days later we picked almost 3 more bushels and canned them. We had 2 huge pressure cookers going almost constantly. We had to wait for them to cool so that took up a lot of time for the pressure regulator to drop back down. It didn't take quite as long on Friday but we were beat. It tur… Continue

Tatted Pink Ribbon from Lenore English

I made this with size 10 thread (last week) so it came out HUGE! It would look nice on the back of a jacket and then embellish the jacket with SRE.

Ciao Sy,
My Grandma taught me to tat since I was nervous fidgety kid.

I have 2 mutts ( 11lbs and 30lbs) and 2 Chihuahuas ( 3 1/2lbs and 5lbs)

Congratulations on learning how to tat. You will work up to the smaller threads. I spent years working in size 10, until I was about 16.

I heard of small threads than 100. I do not know what size quilting thread is. ????

Cheers,
JJ

Hello SY,
Thanks for your nice remarks about my lamp trim. I just put it on there to photograph it. I had been working on another, in many threads and trials, to no good avail.... So, I thought I'd show everyone who had followed my unhappy journey with the last border my latest adventure, finally quitting the other one - which, by the way, I am trying one again! Regards, Stubborn Fox : )

Thanks for commenting on my bookmark. I guess it is a form of rainbow thread...I just know I liked it. I like your pictures and your blog. I really enjoyed reading about your canning and plan to visit again. You mentioned also that you used the old Workbasket magazines to tat from. I have several of those too from years ago. Are those good patterns to use? I heard something at my group meeting that you have to watch those as those don't tell you when to reverse your work. Being a new tatter, I need all the help I can get....I hope you have some Happy Holidays. Hugs, Linda

Thanks for commenting on my pictures. Your tatting is very pretty. I love the layered red and purple flowers. How long have you been tatting?

No problem I'm happy to help especially since it almost whipped me too! LOL I even did it wrong for a few repeats and then had to repeat my mistake to make up for it! LOL At least I figured out what the issues where! It makes a huge difference knowing to use 2 shuttles and when to switch and SLT!
I hope it goes smoother for you this time!

Sy, that pattern is very poorly written and I was very confused when I tatted it. BUT the good news is I feel like I understand it now! Here are my corrections to make it clear:
Use 2 shuttles
After third ring Switch Shuttles
After fourth ring SLT (shoe lace trick)
Then continue following the pattern, switching shuttles and SLTing after the 3rd and 4th rings in each repeat.
I hope this helps you out with the pattern it really should be written in there.

Thanks for the compliment on my earrings "One Shuttle Glamour". To answer your question, the particular style of ear wires that are in that photo were bought at Michael's Arts and Crafts. They're sold in the area where they feature gold findings in fancier black packages - but they are really just gold plated.

Two of the books I have with me right now and they are: Easy tatting by Rozella F. Linden and. Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns by Monica Hahn. The other two are Elegant Tatting Patterns and Tatting Doilies and Edgings. Not sure of the authors there as I left the books athome i Boden when I went to work in Kalix. I have started tatting a pattern called "Eight-inch doiley". I am doing it in Christmas red as the season is coming closer. I´ll post a photo when it is ready.

Thanks for comment on my doily - it looks much better in person if I do say so myself. And just keep practicing, it's come!
