About Me:
As of 12.17.2008, I have just gotten into tatting. Like, about five minutes ago. I did macramé before this, though, and as far as I can tell, this is pretty much the same thing, only with one filler strand, and one knot strand. I have only tried needle tatting (and poorly at that... all I had was yarn and a plastic yarn needle, the eye of which was WAY too big), for lack of shuttles, but I am interested in learning shuttle, as well. Contained thread simply is too good to pass up.

New project!

Just not tatting-related. Well, half of it is. I, some time ago, purchased some fabric to make a roll-up case for pencils, hooks, things like that. The outside of the case is black with white polka-dots (as it was the only fabric that went with the inner fabric at all), and the inner fabric, while pink, is one of the best cotton prints I have ever seen! It is watercolor-esque light and medium pink as a background, and as a foreground, are several hot pink, black, and black outline Jolly Rogers,… Continue

Well...

I am returning the needles I bought. They are meant as decorator needles. Or, that's what they're labeled as. I'm sure they would be just fine as decorator needles, but as tatting needles, they fail. The eye is too big, the tip is way too sharp. Only a steady hand, iron will, and very thick skin, saved me from bleeding all over my practice thread. Of which I found another cone of in the kitchen. Strange. It was probably formerly used to tie roasts and such. What a waste of good crochet thread! I… Continue

I'm glad you're having fun learning tatting! There is a lot of info about it on the Internet. The basics are making a ring, joins, and chains. There are a lot of pretty things that are made just using those basic elements.

Welcome to Etatters!
I know this is probably not the place but you did not enable private messaging.
Look into the concept of Emancipation. Its a legal term that gets you divested of your parents. You do not have to get married to do it and, all you have to do is file a paper with the courts with the reason you are applying for it. You will be able to attend school without your parents being considered for the financial part of it. Contact your local legal free help, ask at the court house. Nashua is a small enough place you will be able to find the information you need. :D Hope this helps.

I usually welcome new people on their page (so many seem reluctant to start a thread in the introductions thread, shy maybe?). But I've already done that welcome thing. Although, have you seen PattyD's thread, places to start for beginning tatters?

And you can make a shuttle out of anything that will hold thread (including those floss holders - it's just not as easy). I've seen a picture of one made from a joining biscuit. And look up Lady Hoare shuttles. Those are flat, too.
