I am a quilter, knitter, crocheter, Mother, Grandmother and now a tatter. I learned to tat about 6 years ago. I took a class from a friend of mine and tatted for a few weeks. I put it down and never tried to do anything with it. I just recently found a tatting group and started tatting again. What you don't use, you lose....I am slowly learning the process again and enjoying it with some very friendly ladies. I don't want to put it down again. I really enjoy it and now that I have found some friends to help me and show me what I'm doing wrong/right it will be more fun.
Linda,You sure got some good advice in your blog about your
frustration in tatting lately. I join with you in that frustration at times...........You have come a long way in such
a short time!! You are also not just doing sample things now.
Hang in there. The idea you gave me ,about putting a second
stich at the begining of every ring and chain is working very well. It does cover the space before the ring and chain better!!! Thank You . Lucille
Hey lady, I loved the black heart...but my step-daughter in Wichita like it so much, I gave it to her...soooo I guess I have to make another one for ME.
Did I see beads on your split ring?!?!?! how cool is that.
Pity she is such low res ... I will need to get a higher res image so she isn't blotchy. Can't have Piggy blotchy. It just isn't her idea of her adorable image!
BTW that is Aeryn Swine ... not to be confused with Farscape's Officer Aeryn Sun
You guys are so great, I absolutely love Tuesdays and can't wait to get to the group. It is definitely the highlight of my week.
With regards to out name I've really thought a lot about the acronym TARTS - (Texas and Richardson TatterS) would work even if a couple of guys joined us. If they can't deal with the name then they are sure going to have a tough time dealing with us as a whacky group.
Thanks for the info, Linda. I'll keep them in mind. I have the other two books you mentioned. I think what turned me off from the one you have pictured was the price. It was $19 at Velona Bookcraft. They seem to overprice everything. I love Handy Hands for their prices are much more reasonable. So I will keep your info in mind when shopping next time for tatting books for beginners. I just like knowing what to recommend...what has worked for others. THe CD sounds like a great bonus, too!
Hi Linda, Thank you for your very sweet comment about my tatted angel. Yes, she did take a while! I went through a period in my life where all I did was tat, LOL! Thank you for your question. You can google "hens and chicks tatted edging" and see what comes up. There's not ONE set pattern for it, that's for sure. You will see many variations of it. It's basically a single shuttle pattern of only rings and the tops part has a large (sometimes with 3 picots at the top of the ring) ring flanked by two smaller sized rings (the hen with her wings) and underneath the "hen" facing the opposite way are four medium sized rings (the eggs or chicks). That is a verbal description of it. Here is a link to a photograph here on eTatters that has a hens and chicks edging on a CQ square. There are two tatted edgings. The Hens and Chicks edging is the one on the leftish side underneath the word "family". You'll know what I mean when you see the CQ square. It's beautiful. Melissa did it and she embellished the hens and chicks edging with beads. Here is another photo of a hanky with a Hens and Chicks edging on it. This one is tatted by Susan B.T. Hens and Chicks is a very simple edging, but it is has been a favorite of many for many, many years and has become an eduring classic tatting pattern. Hope that helps.
Hi Linda,
Of course you may add me as a friend. I always welcome fellow tatters! LOL I sure understand what you mean by 'loose what you don't use',,,I myself barely did any tatting all summer as I was so busy with building gardenbeds, landscaping our yard, trying to get a greenhouse built (still not finished), and ended up loosing a lot of techniques I had learned, so I too am re-learning a lot of them along with a lot of new ones.
Welcome to eTatters and back to tatting again!!!!
