Actually, I pulled the chains up really tight, so the whole thing is quite stiff on it's own. There are some issues with getting the chains to lay exactly flat, though, since in places where I would normally have "switched shuttles" I couldn't because of the way I wanted the colors to come up.

Ok, how do you get your chains to stay like that? You stiffen them with something I imagine...
Terrific design, lovely, lovely work. Puts me in mind of Cathedral Window coverlets. Also when I was in Germany, I took the opportunity to climb up to top of every cathedral in sight. What I noticed was that the window openings were visibly different from each other. Some openings had 3 lobes, some 4 or 5 or 6. It was pretty obvious that each stonemason had their own ideas about what to do with window openings.
